Week 6 – Plenty of Great Weather!

July 28, 2008 · 3 Comments

Our final two week session of the summer has begun and what a beautiful week it has been. While we did enjoy a tiny bit of rain here and there it was for the most part great weather all around. IMG_9000This past week I did not get to attend any of the evening activities but let me tell you about what I did get to see. Great activities, happy campers and exciting counselors. Our counselors are still bringing the excitement and fun to camp this summer, even after 6 weeks of camp there’s no stopping them.

This past week we had some great activities and challenges for our campers. Our Challenge Adventure Trips this past week were Rafting and Caving, two of our campers favorite trips. IMG_8405Riding camp has been very hard at work preparing for our final Horse Show of the season coming up next Friday. I believe you’ll find some photos of lessons in the show ring on our site.

I had the opportunity to spend some time at quite a few of our activities this week and it was great fun. Early in the week I stopped by one of our morning canoeing activities and according to the counselors they were ahead of schedule. IMG_8467Apparently the lesson covering capsizing canoes is not until the end of the week. Lets just say on day one it was covered. I guess the counselors had to jump in sooner then expected, but it all went well.

Our ropes course had some excited visitors this week for Low and High Ropes activities. High Ropes got to try out a new challenging obstacle during my visit and it did look like a challenge. IMG_8724The Dragon’s Tale was also in full swing for the larger group of campers. Some photos are certainly on our site for you to peruse. Our low ropes participants enjoyed some challenging team building activities.

It has been another great week full of awesome activities. Mini Camp enjoyed their swim lessons at the pool and some very interesting pottery during Arts and Crafts. IMG_9270Soccer as always is a very popular and challenging activity for all involved. Our counselors are still preparing for our upcoming game against Triple C Camp.

This coming week I hope to have some photos of our Waterskiing Sports Clinic. I’ve been meaning to go but something always comes up, but not this week. It’s going to be great fun. So be on the look our for those and we’ll see you next week.

Week 5 – A Beautiful Week!

July 21, 2008 · 1 Comment

As our second 2-week session comes a close we are happy to look back on another great week. This past week we enjoyed some very beautiful weather. There’s not much more one can ask for at camp than great weather. IMG_7474Last week we enjoyed great activities, evening activities, challenge adventure trips, and more. Some of the great activities enjoyed by all this week were, IMG_7472fencing, fishing, kayaking, dance, canoeing, archery, wilderness survival, pottery, and more.

Our Junior Villages this past week enjoyed some great evening activities. Slip ‘n’ Slide was the activity to beat for Junior Boys and Mini Camp this week. This evening activity was wet, soapy and lots of fun. I got to take a few photos of the event and it looked like a blast. My son tells me it was all kinds of fun.

Later in the week our Senior Villagers enjoyed nice cook-out on the beach on Friendship Lake. The Senior Villagers seemed to have a great time and a great meal created by our Senior Village counselors. It was a special concoction I did not have time to try myself. It seemed like a nice mixture of cheese beans, vegetables and corn chips. Now that’s a well balanced dinner!

A Basketball Tournament for the Junior Boys and a Pool Party for Riding Camp, Mini Camp, and Junior Girls was the evening activity on Thursday evening.

Just another great close to the day’s activities. Some great photos of these activities are on our site. I can absolutely attest to our campers love for jumping of the diving board.

Now the really highlight of the week was all-day Friday. We enjoyed our usual great variety of activities but we also had our second Horse Show of the season. IMG_8186Some of our parents stopped by to visit and watch the show. Our riding campers performed wonderfully. The tennis courts were enjoying a little tournament to real test the skills they’d learned all week. Campers enjoyed some one on one matches as well as some doubles against the counselors.

The Friday Night Dance themed “Jail House Rock” was great fun for all who attended. IMG_8147 I got to see some interesting takes on the theme from all who dressed up. I have to say the most , umm, interesting were the Prison Bars costume. Just check out some of the photos to see them in action. Later on we headed to the Council Fire to close out the week and the session with a Camp Fire. We enjoyed some songs, skits, and a great time together.

We’ll see you next week.

Week 4 – A Little Bit of Rain

July 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Another two-week session has just started and with it a bit of rain. Rest assured that we are always ready, rain or shine our programIMG_6315 staff is ready for anything. The first few days of the session were quite wet this past week but that did not stop us from having a bit of fun at camp.

The week had plenty of fun activities to keep our minds off the not so pretty weather. Arts and Crafts is always going strong, rain or shine something is always happening in the A&C Village from drawing, painting, photography, pottery wheel, and more. IMG_6551The Dance Pavilion and African Drumming are quite the place to see the performance abilities of our campers. It’s always a fun challenge for all involved.

As the clouds dispersed and the sun came out later in the week it was certainly wonderful to enjoy a nice swim in the pool and some canoeing and kayaking at the lake. The pool was full of excited campers and staff enjoying a nice dip in the pool. I had the pleasure of witnessing some playful kayak and canoe splashing during my visits around camp. I believe some of the photos from this past week say it all.

This past week some of our staff are starting to prepare for our friendly soccer match against our neighbor camp TripleC Day Camp. IMG_6459This match takes place every year near the end of camp and it’s a source of great pride and bragging rights for the winner. Last year Camp Friendship took home the “gold” after quite a great effort from both teams. It’s a very friendly game where all campers and non-playing staff get to come down to the lower fields and cheer on their team.IMG_6881

Our Program Director, Samantha Leonard was just telling me how excited she was to see how popular Wilderness Survival has become over the past few weeks. Wilderness Survival is one of our new offerings this summer and it has really hit a positive note with our campers. It’s a great opportunity for campers to get a bit of insight on what it takes to survive in the outdoors, from catching your own food (fishing) to safety, (first aid) and cooking, (s’mores). Lets hope I can investigate this fun activity this week and have some photos to share soon.

Well I hope this gives you a nice idea of what we did last week. This coming week we have plenty of fun activities and evening activities, not to mention the Horse Show on Friday. It’s looking like the weather will stay beautiful all week.

We’ll see you next week

Cris

Side Note: It appears that some of the week’s photos did not upload correctly on Friday. I have uploaded all 300+ photos again so if you didn’t see them come by and try again.
