This past week marked the end of our first two-week session of the summer. As always camp has been going strong with campers and staff full of spirit and excitement. I had the pleasure of taking tons of photos of activities this past week so please stop by and check them out.
We had quite a lot of fun activities going on for our campers such as mountain biking, mountain boarding, video production, fishing, lake and pool swim, and much more.
Challenge sent out a Combo and Horseback Trail Riding trip to West Virginia. I hear it was great fun rafting on the New River and biking on the trails. Our Challenge Adventure Trips are always an opportunity for a great adventure outside of camp. This week our challenge trips returned a day early so they could participate in the special Fourth of July celebrations.
When you check out our galleries you’ll see how busy we were last week but the real highlight of the week was on the Fourth of July.
On Friday we had our two-week session Horse Show where all our riding parents could visit and watch the show. Our riding campers were judged by skill level and ribbons were awarded to all. It’s always a great showing and we are always happy to see our parents stop by for a visit on Horse Show Friday.
Camp Friendship also celebrated the “Fourth of July” with our yearly Independence Day themed Color Wars. Our three teams were Red, White, and Blue. They participated in a variety of water and land games and activities throughout the day.
The grand competition took place after lunch with a massive relay all over camp’s many program areas and ending with three campfires on the lower fields. All our team members gathered wood for their respective campfires but only staff were allowed to build the fire for safety reasons. Photos of all these events are available on our bunk1 site and I’d like to thank Sarah our Assistant Director, Sam our Program Director, and Rory our Assistant Program Director for their help taking photos during these events.
All counselors and staff enjoyed a short break in their villages before the final event of the Team Song and cheers at the Friendship Drama Theatre.
We did receive a bit of weather at this point in the day but luckily it didn’t last too long.
We all enjoyed our dinner outside before going to the Friendship Lake for our Friday night dance and closing campfire. After a long day of activities and plenty of excitement we closed out the evening with fireworks and a few words from our founder Mr. Chuck Ackenbom about the significance of the day. All and all it was another great week here at Camp Friendship.
See you next week.
Cris
